How do I manage my website using FTP?

The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to transfer files from a server to a client and vice-versa.

Getting Started

To start, you first need to complete the following steps:

  1. Create an FTP account.
  2. List of FTP Client Software.
  3. Connect to your website using your FTP

After connecting to your website using your FTP client, your server folders and files will be listed to your right side and your local folders and files will be listed to your left.

Upload

To upload folders and files from your PC (Local site) to your server (Remote site), follow these steps:

From Remote site section, select the directory you want to upload your files to, then in your local site section go to the folder or file you want to upload, and you can either:

  • Right click on the folder of file then click Upload.

  • Or drag and drop the folder/file.
    drag and drop to upload

Now if you login to your control panel, go to your File Manager you will find all the folders and files you uploaded.

Download

To download folders and files from your server (Remote site) to your PC (Local site), follow these steps:

From Remote site section, select the folder or file you want to download from, then in your local site section go to the directory you want to download to, and you can either:

  • Right click on the folder of file then click Download.

  • Or drag and drop the folder/file.
    drag and drop file to download

After you finish downloading folders and files, go to the directory you downloaded them to confirm.
